Richard L. Lavosky Sr.

Richard L. Lavosky Sr., 95, formerly of Lawrence Park, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Albion where he had been living for three years.  Richard was born December 28, 1928 in Kittanning, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Emma (Smith) Lavosky.  Richard served with the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was injured in battle and evacuated from the 7th Calvary Infantry Division on October 4, 1951.  Richard received the Purple Heart for his dedicated service to his country.  Richard was a member of the Carl Neff Wesleyville American Legion Post #571, the VFW Post #4789 in North East, and the East Erie Moose Family Center #593 in Harborcreek.  He loved being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and watching baseball games.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lavosky, seven brothers and one sister.  Richard is survived by three children; Marie McCoy and her husband, Michael, of California, Richard L. Lavosky Jr. and his wife, Judie, of Florida, Cynthia Altman and her husband, Bill, of Albion, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  No calling hours will be observed.  A private graveside service and burial will be held by the family in Calvary Cemetery, Erie.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Richard to St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 427 Plum Street, Edinboro, PA  16412.  The Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, is handling the funeral arrangements.  To light a memory candle or leave a condolence please visit www.matterafuneralhome.com
