William (Bill) George Sawdy

William (Bill) George Sawdy

William (Bill) George Sawdy, 92, of Cranesville, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024.  He was born November 22, 1931 in Albion, PA., to Merle and Delna Sawdy.  Raised as a good ‘ole farm boy, he joined the US Navy following high school graduation.  He served as a torpedoman on the USS Corry during the Korean War.  Following his retirement from General Electric in 1996, he continued enjoying life with his wife of 46 years, Judy (Hassler).  Bill was blessed with 10 children: Bill (Mamie), Patti, Diana, Chrissy (Mark), Dan (Terry), Dean (Lisa), Laura (Robert), Karen and Jenny. He is also survived by a brother, Larry.  Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his oldest daughter Kathy (Butch), sisters, Marge & Joan and brother, Chuck.  Attending birthday celebrations, ball games and all activities for and with his family were always a priority and there were a ton of those since his blessings continued with 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  A true man of character, with twinkling blue eyes and a sense of humor, he kept us smiling whether at the Farmer’s Tavern, on hayrides, Albion Fair, Sawdy Family Reunions, trips to the lake & Canada, hanging out in the big back yard or singing Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”.  Family was always first. Above all, he told us how much he loved us.  His truly was a life well lived.  Calling hours will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 12pm until the time of a funeral service there at 2pm with Terry Campbell officiating.  Burial with full military honors will follow in Albion Cemetery.  To send flowers, light a memory candle or leave a condolence, please visit www.matterafuneralhome.com
