Mark A. Funkhouser

Mark A. Funkhouser

Mark A. Funkhouser, 63, of West Springfield, passed away at his home from natural causes on Monday, January 29, 2024.  He was born August 4, 1960 in Erie, a son of the late Joseph and Marjorie (Taylor) Funkhouser.  Mark was a life long learner, always trying to learn new skills.  He loved to tinker and he was always working on something.  He owned his own construction business and worked as a carpenter in Erie County for most of his life.  He loved hunting, being on the water, especially boating and fishing, and enjoyed just about anything outdoors including atvs and snowmobiles.  Mark was an avid musician and played the guitar, using his guitar as an alarm clock when his two sons were younger.  He was a thoughtful friend and enjoyed spending time with all his friends.  He always tried to treat people right and with respect, and he was someone you could call at any hour to help out.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kirk Funkhouser.  He is survived by his two sons, Jared Funkhouser and his wife, Brigette Stump-Vernon, of Richmond, CA, Seth Funkhouser of Royce City, TX, a sister, Laura Torrey of Girard, a sister-in-law, Josephine Funkhouser, and a nephew, Tate Funkhouser.  Memorial calling hours will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 6pm-8pm.  Burial will be private by the family.  To light a memory candle or leave a condolence, please visit
