Howard Wm. Schirmer

Howard Wm. Schirmer went home to heaven on June 7th 2022 surrounded by his family in Erie, PA. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 28, 1928, a son of the late Elmer and Rosella Schirmer. Howard served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1955. He resided in Albion for over 50 years where he worked as a printer and writer at the Albion News. An avid outdoorsman, he was a founding member of the Albion Sportsman’s Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Doris Jane McCarthy Schirmer and siblings Ralph Schirmer, Mildred Durasa and Lawrence Schirmer. He is survived by his sister Margaret Adams of McKean, PA. Howard is also survived by three daughters, Kathy Dureault (Richard) of Chino Hills, CA, Betty Dalessandro (James) of Erie, PA and Peggy Sowa (Edward) of Broadview Heights, OH. He is further survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Church in Albion on Saturday, June 11th from 10:30am-12pm, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12pm. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in Crossingville, and all are invited to a luncheon at St. Phillips Center in Crossingville. Memorial donations may be made to St. Lawrence Parish, 180 East State Street, Albion, PA 16401 or to the Albion Sportsman’s Club, P.O. Box 74, Albion, PA 16401.
