Ray Wadsworth

Ray Wadsworth

Ray Wadsworth, 68, of Conneaut OH, formerly of Cranesville, PA, slipped away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on November 16, 2021, after a brief illness

Buster, as those that knew him well called him, was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on December 16, 1952.  When he was 2 years old, he went to live with Garner and Ruth Campbell and developed a special bond with Garner that they would share all their lives.

Due to a change in circumstances, Buster left the Campbell’s home and moved in with Laura (Nan) Rossiter in Albion, PA, and it was there that he would spend the remainder of his youth.  Buster graduated from Northwestern High School, Class of 1971.  Just a few days later, he met Sue Hudacky at the Albion Carnival, where she asked him to win her a teddy bear.  Unfortunately, luck was not on his side that night so the next day he decided to make his own luck.  He bought a teddy bear and then delivered it to his future bride.

Buster began working as a signal maintainer for Norfolk & Southern in 1971 and would give 41 years of service to the company before his retirement in 2012.  When he worked out of town, he would pick roses from Nan’s garden and leave them for Sue on Monday mornings.  The two would be wed on May 25, 1974.  They were blessed with three children whom he adored, Eric, Laura and Alex.  Buster spent his time teaching his children how to hunt, fish, drive, and shared his love of country music.  One of his favorite things to do was paint old cars.  It was a skill that he would eventually pass on to Eric and many nephews.  Buster’s garage was always open for anyone needing help with a vehicle.  Everyone knew he was always only a phone call away to help anyone that needed his skills.

Buster is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Sue Wadsworth of West Springfield, a son Eric Wadsworth (Robin) of Cranesville and a daughter Laura Brooks (Brian) of West Springfield.  He was blessed with and survived by 6 grandchildren: Sophie, Arla, Emma, Ryan, Mia and Lainey.  He is survived by 2 brothers, Roy and Bob Wadsworth, 2 sisters, Anna Miller (Norm) and Judy Miller (Harry).  While living with Nan, he had many brothers and sisters, including Lisa Schneider (Darrell), Henry Hayes (Charla), Mike and Debbie Olsen.  He is also survived by Jaden, Geanna, Braxton and Aaliyah, whom he helped raise and cared for very much, and countless beloved nieces and nephews.

Buster was proceeded in death by his biological parents Howard and Marion (Kindle) Wadsworth, his foster parents, Garner and Ruth Campbell and Nan Rossiter; by his biological siblings Linda Gavula and Dagmar Lavange, by his beloved son Alex Wadsworth and by Christina Anderson.

Memorial calling hours will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Tuesday from 5pm-7pm.
