Michael "Mike" Furdiga
Michael Furdiga, age 73, long time resident of Springboro passed away May 10, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic where he was being treated for liver cancer. He leaves three sisters, Sophie (Paul) Richard, Nancy Flatley, Chris (Don) Bernardo and a brother Leon (companion Katherine Scanlan) Furdiga, many loving nieces, nephews and cousins plus great nieces, nephews. He was born in Erie, PA to Leon and Anna Furdiga, living for a short time in Albion, PA before moving to Springboro. Mike was academically inclined and Valedictorian at CVHS. He held offices in many clubs and was in band and district chorus. He attended Antioch College in Ohio and was in a work study program in NYC and Guanajuato, Mexico. Mike also encouraged family members in their pursuit of higher education. Mike helped with the Furdiga Family fundraiser for the Springboro Public Library for the annual library walk. He participated from 1996-2013 and in the last walk raised $1,600 for the library. Mike also volunteered at the library and then became a board member while also holding the office of President and Treasurer at various times. In civic duties, he was also a member of Springboro Town Council where he most recently served as President, and he was a current member on the Sewer Board Authority. Interests included being a foodie, reading, travel and unique flowers and trees. He enjoyed long walks in the wood and around town, visiting many friends and neighbors. Mike will be remembered as a very special person that touched many, many lives. Calling hours will be at the Springboro Community Center, North Main Street, on Monday, May 17th from 4:30-7:30pm. Funeral Services are on the following day at 1:00pm at the same location. Please adhere to local mask and social distancing requirements for both events. I want to send my deepest sympathy, prayers, and love to all the Furdiga Family; Sophie, Junior, Nancy, and Chrissy. Because you were all so close, I realize how the loss of Mike is deeply felt. Thinking of you and wishing I could be there.

He brought many gifts and shared so much. I have learned much from his wisdom and kindness. He knew how to make us laugh and feel comfortable around him.

This is such a heartbreaking loss. His accomplishments and life story are impressive and fulfilling. He seemed like a wonderful man. Lots of love and hugs to everyone, especially to my close friends in the Richard and Gentry families.
