Janice E. Sherman, 79, formerly of Albion, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home in Conneautville after a lengthy illness. Janice Elaine Steinhoff was born to Lawrence E. and Lillian L. “Tootie” Graham Steinhoff in Erie on January 26, 1942. She graduated from Northwestern High School then sought her degree in cosmetology. During her time of schooling, she worked in her parents business, Steinhoff Golden Dawn Foods. Early on in her teaching she owned a beauty salon in Albion. Janice went to work for Erie County Tech School, heading the cosmetology department for 32 ½ years, retiring in May 2004. Here she taught her students much more than just hair dressing. She nurtured hundreds of students into successful people. She married Lawrence E. Sherman on December 17, 1977. It wasn’t long till she was milking cows, planting fields and bailing hay. Janice was a 50 year plus member of Albion Chapter #22 Order of the Eastern Star, serving as the Worthy Matron in 1969. She was blessed with the ability of being able to create some beautiful ceramics or take a “room” and transform it into an awesome design and theme for the event. Janice is survived by her husband Larry, her daughter Kimberly (Shawn) Leonetti of Sharpsville, PA, grandchildren Brandon, Tyler, and Bryce Benic, a brother Kenneth L. (Bobbie) Steinhoff of Albion, and many great nieces and nephews. Preceded in passing by her parents Larry and Tootie. A private graveside service will be held by the family in Hope Cemetery, Wellsburg. The Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, is handling the funeral arrangements.
