Charles Lynn Northrop, 78, of Albion, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 11, 2020 after an extended illness.  He was born June 11, 1941 in Platea, PA, a son of the late Kenneth F. and Katherine (Mills) Northrop.  Charles worked as a machine operator for EMI Erie for 33 years, retiring in 2000.  He enjoyed bowling, camping, bird watching, travelling and gardening.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Waid, a grandson, Sargent Chad Keith, and five brothers and sisters.  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Ann (Robison) Northrop, whom he married August 17, 1968, five children, Kimberley Hitzges and her husband, Mark, of Noblesville, IN, Tracy Waid of Quartzite, AZ, Melissa Pifer and her husband, Jeff, of Union City, PA, Kelly English and her husband, Randy, of Yuma, AZ, David Northrop and his wife, Amber, of Tennessee, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  When it is safe to do so, a celebration of life will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion.  Burial will be private in Hope Cemetery, Wellsburg.  The family would like to give a special thank you to Ascera Care Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Charles.  To light a memory candle or leave a condolence, please visit www.matterafuneralhome.com
