Ward Norton Jr.

Ward Norton Jr.

Ward Norton Jr., 88, of Albion, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 after a brief illness.  He was born in Windham, OH on November 20, 1929, a son of the late Ward and Nancy Norton Sr.  Ward graduated from Albion High School where he played football and baseball.  Ward worked at the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad for many years before he retired.  He also was the owner and operator of Norton’s Gun Shop for many years.  Ward was a friendly, sociable guy and everyone he met was considered a friend.  His laugh was infectious and made everyone join in.  He was one of the few in the Army they never could teach to swim, but he fished his whole life with great passion and enjoyment, spending 40 years in the Florida Keys camping and fishing with his beloved wife of 69 years, Margaret (Wallace) Norton.  They made many friends all over the United States and Canada.  Ward was also a hunter, training all his kids and grandkids how to hunt, and he enjoyed seeing and eating their successes!  He was also a skilled trap shooter.  He won many top awards all over the country including State and National Champion.  Ward and four others were the founding members of the Albion Sportsman’s Club, to which the family request donations be sent to in lieu of flowers, PO Box 74, Albion, PA  16401, and to the Albion Public Library which he used extensively.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ward Norton III, two brothers, Frank and Ray Norton, and four sisters, Ann Young, Mark Isham, Ida Eucker and Ruth Ott.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Lynda (Dale) Pier, Mark Norton (Heidi Daily), Kent Norton, his beloved grandchildren, Maggie Swedenhjelm (Rich), Christina Ahlbrandt (Paul), Missy Reynolds (Jace), Jason Norton (Mindy), also survived by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved and who loved him greatly.  A private memorial service will be held by the family.  A public Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 12pm to 4pm, with services at 3pm, at the Albion Church of the Nazarene, 9578 Rt 6N, Albion, (by the 226 Y).  Please join us for a meal and celebration.  The Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.  To light a memory candle or leave a condolence, please visit
